Research and consulting giant Gartner says supply chain tech leaders and CSCOs are set to benefit from technology advancements - especially AI.

Driving the news: Gartner released the top supply chain technology trends for 2024, which included eight areas:

  1. Cyber extortion: Cyber criminals will use AI to execute attacks even faster.
  2. Supply chain data governance: Advanced analytics and AI will enable cross-functional visibility across companies, making data governance mission critical.
  3. End-to-end sustainable supply chains: Sustainability-related legislation will grow globally and drive a shift from voluntary to regulatory compliance.
  4. AI-enabled vision systems: Cameras, computer vision, and AI will automate several processes across the supply chain.
  5. Augmented connected workforce: Technology will speed up employee onboarding and improve decision-making.
  6. Composite AI: Different AI techniques will be used based on use case, instead of a “one-size-fits-all” approach.
  7. Next-gen humanoid workers: Humanoids will automate repetitive work done by humans.
  8. Machine customers: AI workers will autonomously obtain goods or services in exchange for payment.

Zooming in: AI plays a prominent role in at least four of these, as companies integrate the tech into their processes.

What they’re saying: “These technology trends are not isolated, but rather interconnected and mutually reinforcing,” Dwight Klappich, VP Analyst and Fellow in the Gartner Supply Chain practice, said in a release.

  • “Innovative supply chain leaders will connect strategies and investments between multiple trends to help deliver on their mission-critical goals this year.”
